BESTop Jeep Bumper that FITS

I have become a creature of habit and take the time now to read all the one star comments as well as the good ones and thus have a fair idea what to expect. The packaging clearly does not rate a one star as another commented on. When I received it I practically fell on my knees and cried in horror thinking my precious bumper was going to be ruined. Evidently Bestop knows how to make bumpers not how to package them. I am happy to claim mine came in without a scratch and even UPS could not damage the bumper. Now the bumper might have damaged the UPS mans back but the bumper made it.

This bumper does not come with hardware don't expect that if you buy this and for gods sake save the hardware you take off your jeep. I have a 2000 jeep SE model and thankfully even after all these years the hardware came off easily. I use a 1/2 inch impact driver at 100 PSI and really good Torx drivers for an impact driver. Typically all my hardware comes off easily with this .

Save that hardware I know I am repeating myself but you are going to need all of it. When you remove the old bumper you are going to also need to take one set of bolts off a third which is a 15mm bolt that isn't at each end. This was a dream to put on since all the holes lined up with the ones on the jeep. I say that again they actually lined up. If you could lift it one man could put it on the frame. Me I am a old man and got help. Amazing how few friends I have when I do these projects.

The instructions say to install the winch first, if you have one and who would buy this if they didn't. Now if you are like me and went way over board and bought the biggest winch you could and still have the jeep's rear wheels stay on the ground I suggest following the instructions and do this first. With joy my China special winch fit perfectly no need for drilling, I might need heavier shocks though. If you can get your hands on a motorcycle lift or a hyd raulic scissor table use it and save your back and keep your friend from suing you for a back injury. You can use a car jack but it would be very easy to have it fall off and land on your toes. I suggest steel toe boots when doing this the bumper is very heavy especially with a winch that can pull a sequoia tree out by its roots. On second thought I would avoid using a jack.

Another suggestion which I always try to make on doing work like this get some serviceable (red) locktite or equivalent and put it on the bolts. The last thing you want is to have your bumper pulled off deep in the woods or out mud bogging with your buddies because you lost your bolts due to vibration. It does not impress the ladies to see that winch and bumper fall off your jeep while trying to pull them out of the mud. Do the same for the winch bolts they vibrate free as well. A jeep has four wheel drive because it is expected to be driven over rough roads things have a tendency to co me loose.

Of all my projects since buying my used jeep this has been one of the best and heaviest. I truly was impressed with every thing but the packaging (see my review on that). It was reasonably priced could have had a better texture paint but I didn't buy that and can not complain. The D ring attachment is massive and I do mean massive. There is a second hole for a roller bar (optional) I plan to use it to connect my tow bar. This is not a jeep it is a 4 wheel recreational vehicle my wife won't let me have three cars so I told her I was buying a 4 wheel recreational vehicle, she was a bit surprised when I drove it home. So I can not drive the jeep to hunting camp, I have to tow it and this bumper will do an outstanding job to attach a tow bar too.

Poor Quality Control

I received my first shipment and the box was torn in two places with the bumper protruding from the box. Although the product was damaged by the flimsy packaging and shipping, I noticed several touched-up chips and blemishes on the bumper. I returned the shipment and contacted Amazon customer service who ensured me the replacement packaging would be reinforced. The second box arrived open and torn in several places. Although I kept the bumper, this one also had repaired chips and blemishes in five different places. The repairs are very obvious since they use flat paint over the glossy powdercoat. Bestop has disappointed me because of this obvious lapse in quality control. Both bumpers should not have passed quality control. I expect better quality from this popular vendor. I guess bumpers are not their forte. I'm considering buying my rear bumper from another manufacturer.

excellent front bumper

I bought this for my 2001 Jeep TJ. Amazon had the best price (and I looked) and free shipping. The bumper looks great on my jeep and the fit was very good. Thick steel, but not too heavy either. Fairly easy to put on. I would highly recommend it.
